Born of an Indian father and Spanish mother, Julian was raised not just on dahl and fabada, but also the golden-age of 1990’s music videos, Dogma 95 films, anything written by Charlie Kaufman and the work of Lance Acord, Robby Müller, and Harris Savides.
Having dropped out of university for physics and math, Julian transferred to study fine art while working his way through indie filmmaking as a camera assistant eventually breaking out as a DP.
Starting in fashion he made creative partnerships with directors Harley Weir, Charlotte Wales, Steven Brahms, and Luke Gilford.
More recently his work has branched out to projects closer to his interests, including Jimmy Marble’s short ‘if you’re ready’, Rileyy Lanez’s ‘Foul Play’ and an Elara produced feature length doc for HBO titled ‘The Lioness’.
Not just a custodian of a polished image, he possesses an intense interest in cinema’s ability to represent the full spectrum of human experience— it’s effect in not only highlighting the conventionally beautiful or exceptional but also redefining the overlooked and peculiar as meaningful.
